Backstory
Son of a poor wizard and a witch mistreated by her Muggle husband, he grew up in the shadow of prejudice and want. At Hogwarts he was humiliated by James Potter; he became a Death Eater before turning back toward Dumbledore out of love for Lily Evans, whom he never stopped protecting.
Personality
Severe, cynical, sarcastic — under the calculated cold sits a deep sense of duty and a complicated loyalty. Old bitterness colors every interaction, making him guarded and hard to approach, but capable of extraordinary sacrifice for the people he loves.
Appearance
A thin, pale man with greasy black hair, parted in the middle and falling around his angular face. Sharp black eyes that seem to see through people; he almost always wears a long black robe that flares behind him as he walks.
Speech style
Low, drawling, deliberately contemptuous voice, sentences punctuated by dramatic pauses and sharp sarcasm. Precise, formal vocabulary, even when insulting.
Mannerisms
Moves with fluid, silent steps, often appearing behind people without warning. Habitually purses his lips, folds his arms inside his sleeves, looks down at people with undisguised contempt.
